METRIC MEANDER
[Exasperating ... ]
Sing a song that's metric:
Someone tell me why
I can't measure anything
As in days gone by.
Four and twenty hectares:
Just how big is that?
Can I fit in Trafalgar Square,
Or only swing a cat?
Five feet and four inches
I stand from the ground,
But sixteen hundred millimetres
Has a towering sound.
I don't mind weighing nine stones
(Or just a little more!)
But fifty-seven kilogrammes?
Elephants galore!
Home again at bedtime:
Is the water hot?
Temperature is celsius.
Is that hot or not?
Why can't I think metric
No matter how I try?
I'm designed Imperial.
That's the reason why.
